Bugatti release bat-shit track car, The Bolide

Do you need any of the following?

A 1824-horsepower, multi-million Euro, track-only hypercar?

If yes, lucky you, as today, Bugatti have announced their Bolide which covers all of the above bases.

The Bolide, Bugatti claim, will lap the infamous Nordschleife in 5mins 23secs, which is outrageous, considering the Porsche 919 EVO, a no-compromise evolution of their Le Mans conquering race-car only went 4 seconds faster around a lap.

To add to this, if you set the Bolide in low-drag mode, Bugatti say it will be good for 310+mph. Which you might well believe, seeing as the Bolide has a power to weight ratio of a faintly ridiculous, 1471hp/tonnne.

It's that figure that is most eye opening. While the standard, road-going Chiron, of which the Bolide is based, weighs near as damn-it, two tonnes, the Bolide tips the scales at a mere 1240kg.

That's about the same weight as a Kia Rio with 150 times the power. Bonkers.

Bugatti have a achieved all this by stripping all unnecessary weight, redesigning the body and aerodynamics and beefing up the might W16 engine's internals.

So, does the world need a near 2000-horsepower, track-only hypercar? No.

Am I glad it exists, absolutely.
